This tag sounds quite useful :-) At the moment, I am still struggling to get arabic (input and output) working in my browser. kind of a real editing hell here. --elian Yeah -- in the GNU realm -- Vim6.2 which has arabeyes (and some wikipedia) mods -- and thats pretty much going to be the editor of choice for the developing wikiclient. There are some issues with that -- One I cant get an Arabic monspace font. I cant really read/writeArabic anyway -- Im relying on machtrans from al misbar to do the work -- much of which seems to be acceptible. Do you read Arabic? Ive tried a number of clients to try to find something that will work -- a keyboard is out of the question --- the ArabEditor seems to be ok, but its not free -- it has a semantic option instead of the arabic layout -- but Im sticking to the machtrans, just because it makes more sense -- no spelling errors, only grammatical ones :D سفثرثقفهلخ 20:17 3 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Hello Ibn Alnatheer, welcome here :-) I hope you can review some of the translations I did today (I am really unsure if they are appropriate). Regarding "members oasis": if you are logged in, you can move pages to a new title (click on "move this page). But I am not sure if the title is good, because in a strict sense Wikipedia has no members, it is open to everybody. members oasis sounds a little bit like "members only area" and this is not the impression new people should get. greetings, Elian 05:39, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Hi Elian , thank you for your replay , i am wondering about using some thing not connect with water like in english it's written to be Village pump & in japanese it will be 井戸端 (well side) ... I really preffer الميدان it means "The square" in arabic . --Ibn alnatheer

Zero:-- type english/code in an editor, and paste it into the html field -- its miserable other wise.
One: Brackets in RTL are ]]backwards [[-- thats fairly easy.
Two: Arabic and English should not be on the same lines.
- (RTL and LTR get really screwy -- its bad enough having to use HTML and Wiki tags.)
Three:When bracketing Arabic text, be careful when the bracke breaks the text.

In some stubborn cases, use new lines to isolate each element, and then delete the new lines so that the elements assemble in the proper order.

Four:Document your ideas/experience here on the village oasis.

Today I started some translations of the MediaWiki-Namespace (a list can be found on my user page). Translations are based on my limited knowledge of arabic, there maybe grammar errors and all such stuff in there, but maybe it's better than nothing.

Editing is still completely broken in my browser, but at least the fonts are displayed correctly. If someone needs an Arabic keyboard, here is one (requires Javascript). تصبح على خير -- Elian 04:39, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Arabic name for wikipedia عدل

I am not sure, if the currently used ويكيبيديا is really the perfect arabic transcription for Wikipedia. I would rather transcribe it as وكبيدية. This is important to decide quickly, because to change a wrong name later creates a lot of hazzle. Ibn Alnatheer, how would you spell wikipedia in Arabic? --Elian 15:33, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Hi Elian , it's not that easy to tell .. at the first i write the same of the site ويكيبيديا >>>>> but the way you write it وكبيدية . close to the meaning of كبد that means liver something relate to the liver !!! we have to think more carefully about it !!!!

Logo عدل

I apologize for posting in English, but I don't know Arabic. I have been working on making logos for all the different language wikipedias, most of which use the latin alphabet. In so doing I also made a Arabic logo. They're all on meta:Wikipedia in other languages. Please leave your feedback on meta:talk:Wikipedia in other languages about whether or not it is correct (spelling and choice of words) and acceptable. If there are problems, let me know, and I'll try to address them and make a logo to your satisfaction. If you like it, you can ask Brion to install it on the Arabic wikipedia for you. --Nohat

I suggest not using the Harakat (Tashkeel) in the Wiki Titles. as it will greatly effect the searchability, for the wikipedia search engine, and for other search engines. So, titles pages should be free of Tashkeel, Fatha, Damma, Kasra, Tanween, Shaddah, Sokoon, and so.

Luckly not many pages are created in the Arabic wikipedia, so putting this in sight, sysops will work on moving pages, or creating redirects to avoid such problem.

I agree completely. This is something which should be put on a policy page, together with the few essential rules which have all wikipedia projects in common. The essential four: 1) be nice to each other 2) wikipedia is an encyclopedia. 3) try to write articles from a neutral point of view. and 4) no copyright violations (this could break us the neck). could you set up such a page in the wikipedia namespace? --Elian

Month and Day Names عدل

Having month and day names in Arabic is important.. As there is no Abbreviated form of month names, I used the exact same month sanems for the Abbreviation Array. below are the needed values to make that possible:

you simply need enough headlines in your article (with ==), if there are more than three a toc is shown. --إليان

No You did not do anything wrong, as I said in my reply above you will not be able to use Arabic letters for the MATH equations.. Maybe this is something that we should work on improving in the Mediawiki TeX markup, to add \seen \sad \ain and so. -- Isam

لا يمكن القول أن أسماء الأشهر (تموز، نيسان، حزيران، آذار، وغيره) هي أسماء عربية للأشهر، ذلك أن هذه الأسماء (كل الأشهر) غير مشتقة من جذور عربية، وهي فعليا من اصول فارسية، أو أرامية أو غيرها. طبعا يجب أن يكون هناك مدخلات أو مواضيع عن الأشهر المستعملة في بلاد الشام، لكن أعتقد أن نظام الموسوعة يجب أن يستعمل الأسماء الأكثر أنتشارا وإستعمالا. إذ أن الأسماء التي ذكرتها للأشهر غير معروفة في شمال أفريقيا، وفي اغلب الجزيرة العربية. ويقتصر انتشارها على بلاد الشام. -- عصام 13:04, 4 مايو 2004 (UTC)

يمكن أن نعمل كما تعمل كثير من القانات العربية، ونكتب الإسمين دائما. لكن المشكلة أن أكثر العرب لا يعرفون أسماء الأشهر المستعملة في الشام لأنهم غير مستعملة في البلدان العربية في قارة إفريقية، فربما من الأحسن أن نستعمل redirects. مصطفى 18:08, 4 مايو 2004 (UTC)

أرى أن الأمور رائعة بإستثناء أمر واحد مزعج جدا. عدد المساعمين الجدد New Wikipedians كان في فبراير 9 أشخاص، وفي مارس 7، وفي ابريل 2، وهذا الشهر (لغاية 13 مايو) صفر. أرى أنه يجب تكثيف جهود الإعلان عن الموسوعة، في السابق كان هناك تردد من الإعلان الواسع في المنتديات والقوائم البريدية وغيره، لقلة عدد الإداريين الموجودين للتعامل مع التخريب وللمساعدة وحل المشاكل، يوجد الآن 4 إداريين متواجد واحد منهم على الأقل في أي وقت. أرى أن نبدأ محاولة الإعلان عن الموسوعة لكن مع الإلتزام بما يلي (برأيي الخاص)

عدم استعمال القوائم البريدية الغير مخصصة لمواضيع مشابهة.
عدم استعمال المنتديات الغير مخصصة لمواضيع مشابهه.
عدم استعمال البريد الإلكتروني بشكل مجحف ومزعج Mass emails, or SPAM.
المحاولة قدر الإمكان التوجه لمستخدمي الإنترنت العرب في غير المنتديات وقوائم البريد التقنية. الموسوعة لا يجب أن تقتصر على التقنيين.

بتصدّر كثير من المقالات الموجودة في الموسوعة قائمة "جوجل"، يجب من المشاركين أخذ الأمور مأخذ الجد لإظهار مقالات نوعية عندما يقرأ رجل الشارع مقال بالعربية من على الموسوعة. اما بشأن القضية المحزنة التي تطرق لها أخونا عصام، فهي محزنة بعض الشئ. الا اني اميل إلى وجود القلة القليلة التي تعطي من وقتها لإثراء الموسوعة على تزايد عدد المسجلين الذين يمثلون غثاء السيل.

أردت ترجمة الوصلات الموجودة في الصفحات الخاصة لكن لم أتمكن من ذلك لعدم وجود خيار عدل هذه الصفحة أعتقد أن ترجمة هذه الوصلات يساهم في تسهيل التصفح.

لا يمكن الوصول إلى صفحة التصويت على الحذف بشكل مباشر. الطريقة الوحيدة هي استخدام الوصلة الموجودة في صفحة اسئلة متكررة. أقترح إضافة وصلة في الصفحة الرئيسية و في قسم الصفحات الخاصة.

نفس المشكلة بالنسبة لصفحة الإداريين

يا حكيم دمشق، كما يبدو أنت لا تحب أن تعمل أكثر ما تشتكي، هذه لسيت من الحكمة :) (أمازحك) .. بالنسبة للملف أعلاه، يحتاج بعض التعديلات في الأيام، والأشهر، لإزالة "ال" التعريف والهمزة وغيرها. بالنسبة لترجمة الأقسام الأخرى، هناك بعض التعارض ما بين ما هو بالملف، وما هو موجود في الداتابيز MediaWiki. على أي حال قمت بتعديل الملف الآن، وإصلح ما رأيته، الموضوع ليس مستعجل، لأن الصفحات الخاصة لا يستعملها إلا من كان يستعمل النظام بشكل كبير، وهدد هؤلاء لا يتجاوز ال 6 أشخاص (وبالمناسبة أنت لست من النشطين) .. أتمنى أن نرى نشاط أكبر منك، وشكرا لك على أهتمامك بموضوع الصفحات الخاصة. -- عصام 17:20, 22 مايو 2004 (UTC)
