The leg of a frog or chicken in which the muscles have beenloosened from each other by cutting the connective tissue uniting themmay be prepared by the teacher or some of the older pupils and keptpermanently for demonstration. Ask the pupils to note the differencebetween the muscle and tendon, and how the muscle or tendon is joinedto the bone. 2. Observe through the skin the three tendons on the front of thewrist, and by working the fingers and thumb determine where thetendons are inserted. 3. Require the class to perform some simple gymnastic exerciseshelpful in preventing round shoulders and flat chests. Call theattention of the pupils to the graceful positions in walking andstanding. 4. When possible, it will prove of great interest and value to havea trained nurse or physician show the pupils how to massage andproduce most helpful results in such simple ailments as a slightljsprained wrist or a stiff neck.

HOW THE NERVOUS SYSTEM ISCONSTRUCTED Parts. — The nervous apparatus of the body may beconsidered in three parts : the central neyvous system^ in-cluding the brain and spinal cord ; the nerves^ extendingfrom the brain andcord to all parts ofthe body ; and thesympathetic system^composed of bunchesof cells, chiefly inthe body cavity,with their nervessupplying theglands, and the in-voluntary muscle inthe entire body.The nervous systembears the same re-lation to the organsof the body as themanager of a large establishment, with the telephone wiresleading to all departments, does to the workmen. Thebrain and spinal cord direct the other organs as to theamount of work to be done, and the time to do it.
