وصف شعار النبالة

Deutsch: „Auf einem von Silber (Weiß) zu Blau quadrierten Schildgrund, ein aufgerichteter, gold- (gelb) bewehrter und gold- (gelb) gekrönter roter Löwe.“ Der dem Schilde der Edelherren von Horstmar entnommene, seit dem 14. Jahrhundert in städtischen Siegeln überlieferte Löwe erscheint seit dem 17. Jahrhundert als Wappentier der Stadt Horstmar. Der quadrierte Schildgrund entstammt dem Siegel des Geschlechts von Leer und wurde von der gleichnamigen, jetzt in der Stadt Horstmar aufgegangenen Gemeinde seit 1939 als Wappen geführt.

English: „A counter-quarterly shield Argent and azure, thereupon an armed and crowned Or lion rampant gules.“ The arms were granted on February 9, 1972. The arms are derived from the arms of the Lords of Horstmar, who had founded the city in 1269. After the merger with Leer, the quartered field of the old arms of Leer replaced the bars.
