والستيرويد هو نوع من المركبات العضوية التي تحتوي على ترتيبات محددة من اربع حلقات التي انضمت إلى بعضها البعض. ومن الأمثلة على المنشطات تشمل [[الكوليسترول]]، والهرمونات الجنسية واستراديول [[التستوستيرون]]، و[[ديكساميثازون]] العقاقير المضادة للالتهابات.
