A native subcontinental church began to take shape with people from humbler backgrounds, while converts from high social caste preferred to attend the worship with the English (Gibbs 1984, 284).}}</ref> الهوية البنجابية هي هوية ثقافية ولغوية حيث يعتبر البنجاب أن لغتهم الأولى هي [[لغة بنجابية|اللغة البنجابية]]. ينتشر البنجاب في منطقتي [[البنجاب]] [[باكستان|الباكستانية]] و[[الهند]]ية. في [[باكستان]] يمثل البنجاب الغالبية العرقية للسكان بنسبة 44% ويتواجدون بالأخص في منطقة [[البنجاب (باكستان)|البنجاب]] أما في [[الهند]] فهم كذلك يتخذون من منطقة [[بنجاب (الهند)|البنجاب الهندية]] تواجدا رئيسيا لهم لاسيما في مناطق [[هاريانا]]، [[هيماشال براديش]] و[[دلهي]]. يوجد أيضا عدد هام من البنجاب بالمهجر في كل من [[المملكة المتحدة|بريطانيا]] و[[كندا]] بالدرجة الأولى وكذلك في [[شرق أفريقيا]] و[[الخليج العربي]] و[[أستراليا]] وبعض دول [[آسيا]].
