والستيرويد هو نوع من المركبات العضوية التي تحتوي على ترتيبات محددة من اربع حلقات التي انضمت إلى بعضها البعض. ومن الأمثلة على المنشطات تشمل الكوليسترول، والهرمونات الجنسية واستراديول التستوستيرون، وديكساميثازون العقاقير المضادة للالتهابات.
