و مفصل الركبة هو أكبر مفصل في الجسم ويتكون من التقاء ثلاث عظام هي عظمة الفخذ والقصبة والردفة (الصابونة). وتغطي الغضاريف الناعمة أسطح هذه العظام المكونة للمفصل حتى يضمن ذلك سهولة في الحركة. ويوجد بين عظمتي الفخذ والقصبة غضاريف هلاليه تعملان كوسادتان تساعدان على امتصاص الصدمات أثناء المشي والجري.
