نقاش:دير الأنبا أنطونيوس (البحر الأحمر)

Hello all:

sorry for not writing in Egyptian Arabic.

I am contacting you from the Amharic wikipedia. From a research I have done, I learned that sometime in the 16th century, the Ethiopian king Libna Dingel employeed a Cretan painter to make a portrait of his and his wife. He also had this same man make a painting of the Virgin Mary. The king then gathered all 3 drawings and sent them to St. Antony Monastery in Egypt (see: Abstracts of papers - Byzantine Studies Conference, Volumes 16-19 (1990)). I now have a photo of the portrait of the King (in black and white) but I have never been able to find the picture of the wife.

If you are in Egypt and know someone from the monastery, could you please help us get a digital copy of the picture? Or do you know anyway I can contact the monastery itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you have any information whatsoever, you can contact me here

Thanks very much!
